MySQL Database Administrator - Sunnyvale, CA

We are a very well funded startup located here in the Bay Area. We dabble in the education media space. We have built a groundbreaking web platform used by over 1000 colleges and universities nationwide. We are highly profitable and growing rapidly. Due to our exponential growth we are currently looking to expand our team by adding a MySQL Database Administrator.

Responsibilities:

  • Perpetuate assembly, staging, and development environments for our 10 + MySQL databases. Including but not limited to set up, configuration, restoration, schema changes, enhancements, performance tuning, etc.
  • Aid in general systems administration tasks along side our operations team
  • Assist with database operation on a daily basis
  • Support data warehouse execution and maintenance
  • Execute MySQL diagnostics and monitoring
  • Assess project length, effort, supply load and cost

Requirements:

  • Solid reproduction, optimization tuning, and backup techniques in MySQL
  • Shell scripting ability is a must (Bash, Perl, etc.)
  • Background with immense data sets (50-100m+ rows)
  • Ability to flourish while working independently as well as with a team of engineers
  • Cutting edge MySQL replication capabilities
  • Exposure to performing backups of huge databases with very little downtime
  • Background working with MySQL on FreeBSD
  • Understanding of PCI DSS is a plus
  • Background in system administration is a plus
