Build Release Manager - San Francisco, CA

We are a dynamic startup that has been around for just over 2 years. We were founded by former executives and un-naturally solid engineers from Amazon, eBay, Plumtree, MySpace, and a few other innovative companies. We have secured a total of 2 rounds of angel funding all without blowing ourselves out of the water, after-all we are still in stealth mode. We are looking for an individual who is detail oriented with solid task management and people skills to lead the IT and Engineering team to ensure smooth releases. This person will be responsible for scheduling and organizing all activities related to software development and IT operation projects. We need someone who has a strong understanding of build processes and tools to counsel our teams on the ideal process to ensure smooth releases.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Operate as a subject matter guru to develop automated build processes as a foundation for continuous deployment, maintenance and development efforts.
  • Oversee the daily management of build/release cycles for our team of engineers.
  • Administer operation and maintenance support to supervise tools, repositories and utilities already deployed or upgrade the next available version in an undisruptive manner
  • Preserve the build environments and build history
  • Provide administrative and technical support including, but not limited to, patch installation, troubleshooting, performance tuning, software configuration, failure analysis, architecture and migrations.
  • Create and maintain backup/recovery strategies for an SCM system
  • Sustain and improve processes used to serve internal customers
  • Provide constant status information to management
  • Supply regular progress reviews, including formal reviews

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Masters in CS or similar field is ideal
  • Recognized ability to manage teams through multiple, and sometimes simultaneous, release cycles
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with team members as well as any other engineers involved
  • Superb communication skill, verbal and written is required
  • Solid negotiation and consensus building skills
  • Ability to prioritize and drive issues to a resolution
  • 3+ years experience in a lead role, ideally in a Build/Release team
  • Prior experience in a complete software development product life cycle
  • Thorough understanding of build/release processes and SCM
  • Ability to work from the *nix command line
  • Experience with Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • Scripting experience in Shell or python/perl is ideal
  • Experience using Maven, IVY, or other management tools
  • Must have strop organizational skills and be very detail oriented
